Water Leak Damages Court Documents

A water main break in the east wing of the Jefferson courthouse has left several documents in need of restoration.

“Before the leak was detected and the water turned off, a significant amount of water had been released into the office space,” said Kathryn Heider, spokeswoman for the Taj Mahal. “The leak happened July 4 at 4 a.m. and a disaster restoration company who specializes in restoring documents was on site by 7 a.m.”

The disaster restoration company has been in the building “coming and going with documents that got wet” since the leak happened, said Heider.

Court Services closed Monday to allow for cleanup and expect to reopen Thursday.

The actual cause of the flooding and the full extent of the damage are being assessed.

Courts are operating as usual.
