Paint factory fire under investigation

A fire late Saturday night ripped through the Diamond Vogel Paints factory located at, 1119 Superior Avenue, according to Jeff Hermann, Sheboygan Fire Department shift commander.

Hermann said three fire engines, two ladder trucks, a heavy-duty rescue squad and two ambulances were sent to the fire, reported at 9:46 p.m. Hermann said firefighters found the paint mixing area engulfed in flames when the arrived on the scene at about 9:50 p.m.

Firefighting efforts were hampered by thick black smoke in building, but the fire was contained to the mixing area. The entire building, which is located in a predominantly residential area, sustained smoke and water damage. In addition, much of the company's paint stock also sustained smoke and water damage.

Electrical power to the surrounding neighborhood was knocked out for a time and Superior Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic for a time. Fire crews remained on the scene overnight to put out hot spots.

The company maintains Major Warehouse Locations across the mid west and foresees no ongoing delivery issues.
