Angola street opens after fire to deal with water damage and somke damage
Maumee Street in Angola is opening Wednesday after a fire Saturday at the old Moodys Book Store building.
A structural engineer has determined that 301 W. Maumee St. is structurally sound, the Angola Fire Department said in a statement. Although the street is opening, parking will be restricted to the west side of West Street.
More than 60 firefighters from northeast Indiana fire departments battled the fire in downtown Angola early Saturday.
Firefighters were called to an apartment in the building about 1:20 a.m., and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the building, the fire department said in a statement.
The fire was controlled about 80 minutes after firefighters arrived.
The building sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage on the second floor, smoke damage to the first floor and water damage to the basement.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined, the department said Wednesday.
