Afternoon Fire Contained To One Room-Smoke & Water Damage to the rest of the House
No injuries were reported in connection with a fire Monday afternoon at 1912 Blackford Street.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 1:54 p.m. and responded to the scene with four fire companies. Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said the firefighters were able to contain most of the fire damage to the laundry room, but there was smoke and water damage to the rest of the house.
Chief Biggs estimated the loss as $15,000.
All of the occupants of the house, including at least one adult and several children, got out safely. Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the family, including a few nights at a local motel.
The firefighters were told by some of the occupants that this was the second fire in that house in the past three to four weeks. Cpt. Lesley Morgan with the Fire Investigation Division will be trying to determine what started the blaze.
